In January 2008 connectivity between the Research and Education Communities in Europe and Sub-Saharan Africa was established with a 1 Gbps between the UbuntuNet Alliance and GÉANT.
To improve the information flow from the community to the district and the regional levels of the Uganda health care system, empowerment of rural healthcare communities, for better health outcomes of rural population in Uganda using information and communication technology (ICT). a) Put in place the necessary E-infrastructure with support from Uganda Communications Commission b) Implemented an effective Electronic Health Record Management system d) Creation of a unique patient ID system e) Established a mechanism for Tele-consultation support
