Objectives and short summary of activities
The objectives of the project are to:
Advocate and popularize grid and cloud computing as research tools in the University
Develop a t-infrastructure in grid and cloud computing for University faculty
Set up an institutional platform for grid and cloud computing
Establish a Diaspora digital connection model for the University
Chinhoyi University of Technology is participating in the UNESCO/HP project on reversing brain drain into brain gain. The project is premised on the use of e-based education-oriented technologies running on the global cyber-infrastructure. The main technologies to be used are grid and cloud computing. Activities include:
Awareness sessions of grid and cloud computing as research-enhancing technologies
Grid and cloud computing training
Setting up the Institutional grid
Target/Beneficiary community
University academics and researchers
Students
Diaspora faculty
Technology used, standards and services employed
Distributed computing as a tool to link up researchers. Use of grid and cloud computing technologies
Research activities carried and out and scientific data generated
Developing a digital model to link up researchers as a way of supporting and developing research capacity in Africa in order to countervail the effects of brain drain.
Principal outcomes and documentation (plus link to case studies)
Setup of a website
Capacity building for grid and cloud computing
Awareness by faculty of access to counterparts in the Diaspora
Ability to connect virtually with fellow researchers
Other potential application areas/ actual spillovers
Leads to internationalization of research
Assists in building international research networks
