Helsinki, Finland on 9th - 10th December 2010.

PROGRAMME | DELEGATE INFORMATION PACKAGE

Kindly supported by the e-IAfrica consortium, the conference, organised in the framework of the  stimulating 2010 Euro-Africa Week on ICT Research & e-Infrastructures,  officially opened on the 9th December 2010 at 6.15 pm with a Networking cocktail to welcome participants to the event.

This conference aimed at presenting and promoting the results of the project’s  study and revolved around the questions on how existing EU and Sub-Saharan Africa e-Infrastructure links should evolve in a way that will bring benefits to African development and to the e-Infrastructure cooperation between both regions.

The event’s discussions will shape an official report to be sent to key stakeholders and decision makers. Participants feeback therefore added considerable value in  advancing the agenda of e-Infrastructure R&D in Sub-Saharan Africa  & Europe in a way that can sustain development in both regions.

The discussions started on the 10th December 2010 at 8.30 with an opening plenary speech focusing on Linking Policies to Applications, followed by a session on Exploiting e-Infrastructures Potential for Boosting Research and Innovation in Africa and for Fostering Euro-Africa Cooperation presented by Dr. Simon Taylor, Erina4Africa coordinator.
During throughout the event, high profile speakers from Africa and EU highlighted the benefits of adopting e-Infrastructures with specific reference  on e-Government, e-Security, eLearning and e-Health.

The knowledge generated by the conference is expected to raise greater awareness of the value of e-Infrastructures and  pinpoint user priorities & drivers for adoption  paving the ground for future development to strengthen the global science community and increase the number of sub-Saharan organisations involved in EU/FP7 collaborative projects
